If you're looking for a lightweight aluminum truck topper, the MSJ Frontline and Sunseeker are built for two slightly different customers.
The simplest way to think about them is this:
Frontline = rugged, functional, maximum utility.
Sunseeker = streamlined, modern, style-focused.
Neither is automatically the better topper. The right choice depends on how you use your truck.
MSJ Frontline: Built for Utility
The Frontline starts at $2,695 and is designed around lightweight aluminum construction, secure storage and serious roof-carrying capability.
At approximately 140 lbs for midsize trucks and 180 lbs for full-size trucks, the Frontline gives you the durability of a metal topper without adding the weight associated with many traditional truck-cap designs.
Its rugged styling also isn't just cosmetic. The Frontline is a great fit for contractors, hunters, overlanders and anyone regularly carrying expensive gear in the bed.
Every Frontline includes roof rails, an interior light and third brake light. All doors are lockable and keyed alike, and multiple glass and Molle door configurations are available.
Frontline Roof Capacity
This is one of the biggest reasons to choose the Frontline.
The Frontline is rated for:
500 lbs dynamic roof load
1,000 lbs static roof load
That makes it an excellent platform for customers planning to add a rooftop tent or carry substantial equipment above the bed.
Add crossbars to the factory roof rails and most conventional crossbar-mounted rooftop tents can be accommodated.
If your build revolves around an RTT, hunting equipment, work equipment or maximizing what you can carry, the Frontline is probably where we'd start the conversation.
MSJ Sunseeker: A More Refined Topper
The Sunseeker takes a different approach.
Where the Frontline intentionally looks rugged and utilitarian, the Sunseeker emphasizes a sleeker, more integrated appearance.
That's important because not every truck owner wants their topper to look like commercial or expedition equipment.
We've had customers who love everything about the Frontline but prefer the smoother, more refined door design of toppers like the RSI SmartCap. That's exactly where the Sunseeker makes sense.
The tradeoff is roof capacity: the Sunseeker has a lower roof-capacity rating than the Frontline.
So if maximum roof load is one of your primary requirements, we'd lean toward Frontline. If it isn't—and appearance is a bigger part of the decision—the Sunseeker may be the better fit.
Which One Should You Choose?
Choose the Frontline if...
You prioritize ruggedness, utility and roof capacity.
It's particularly well suited for contractors storing tools, hunters carrying equipment, overlanders adding a removable rooftop tent, and customers who simply want a lightweight, secure aluminum topper they can leave on their truck every day.
Choose the Sunseeker if...
You want the benefits of an aluminum truck topper but place greater emphasis on sleek styling and a more refined appearance.
If you don't need the Frontline's higher roof capacity and prefer the Sunseeker's design, there's little reason to buy based purely on which model looks more "heavy duty."
Buy the one that fits how you're actually going to use your truck.
What About the Vanguard?
There's one more question we commonly get:
Why not just buy a Vanguard camper?
The Vanguard serves a different purpose.
Frontline and Sunseeker are primarily truck toppers. They're excellent for enclosed storage and can be built into camping systems, but they maintain a more traditional topper form factor.
The Vanguard integrates the sleeping system directly into the camper.
If you want your topper to stay approximately cab height, fit more easily into everyday life, and potentially use a removable rooftop tent, look at Frontline or Sunseeker.
If you want the camper itself to become your sleeping and living system, look at the Vanguard.
